The GPS program can be delivered in any environment with minimal equipment. This program is designed to allow those with little or no experience in teaching physical activity to learn and implement program efficiently while helping to build confidence and competence.
Athletics Alberta (with funding from the RBC Learn to Play grant) has created a program that targets participants in the Active Start and FUNdamentals phase of the Canadian LTAD phases. The GPS program teaches fundamental movement skills and develops physical literacy using unstructured, general play skills (GPS), activities, and games that contributes to development of Agility Balance and Coordination. GPS will provide a strong foundation for participation in all sports, assisting children to move efficiently to provide a foundation for growth and development into active, productive, and healthy citizens as adults.
